So, the past couple weeks have been crazy busy, as you can see by the complete lack of posts during that time. Jillian has been doing the job of 4 (or more) people at WC after their Emergency Coordinator left, making her the Acting Emergency Coordinator running all of their earthquake relief programs. And while this job is incredibly tolling, causing her to work 11 hour days followed by skype conference calls at home, they have chosen her to represent WC at a USAID conference in Costa Rica on refugee protection.
It’s pretty awesome, and she’s actually there right now (she left today). I will be heading that direction tomorrow, and she took an extra day so we could get some MUCH needed R&R, the first break we will have gotten since coming back after the earthquake. We come back Friday, so it’s not a long trip at all, but it will still be nice to get away.
I have been super busy working as well, shooting video for an organization named PLAN for four days, and then getting a call on Wednesday that NBC would be coming on Thursday! After feverishly coordinating cars, hotels, fixers and drivers, the team ended their work today with a fantastic piece on the 6 month anniversary of the earthquake that aired on Nightly News which you can see here, if you’re interested. (And if you’re REALLY interested, the shot of the tents in the median of the road was shot by yours truly!) They leave tomorrow, so we will all be heading to the airport together.
And in the meantime, highschool friends of Jillian have been invading our home for almost the past 2 weeks, with Jillian’s senior prom date visiting with one of his friends for 5 days last week, and Kristina, who was one of Jillian’s bridesmaids, and her best friend, ending her four day visit tomorrow. They were both really great visits. Kristina’s was supposed to be a surprise, but after Jillian was asked to go to Costa Rica we had to spill the beans and let her know what was up.
Some of you may be asking what Olie has been doing this past 2 weeks and, well, he’s been drinking. He has sensed the enormous amount of stress that Jillian and I have been under, and has been dealing with it by knocking back a 6-pack of Prestige every night. It’s actually pretty awkward to have a drunk dog all the time, but we all have to deal with our problems somehow, right?!
So there’s the excuse for not updating the blog, I’ll get back on it ASAP, and I intend to write a post about the 6 month anniversary of the quake in the next couple days. I’m sorry to all of those people who emailed and messaged me asking “Hey, you ever think about updating your blog, a@$hole?”, or “Maybe it should be ‘Zen and the Art of Never Updated Your Blog'”. It (maybe) won’t ever happen again.
EDITOR’S NOTE: Olie has not really been drinking alcohol, the bottle was empty. Please don’t go reporting us to the SPCA.
